Malpas Chess Club Gwent hosted the first of two Rapid Quick Play events. The first was Monday evening 29th June and it was a great turn out. After a great tussle in the final round Malpas player Peter Kirby won as white to Yoganand of Newport both playing fine rapid chess and clinched first prize. For an exceptional performance by a Junior a prize was awarded to Alex S. A final grading prize was awarded to Joganjali K. With a super attendance of 19 players, we hope to encourage an equal support for our second Rapid Play tournament at Malpas Gwent on the last Monday of July. Please can I remind everyone that the Newport Chess Congress 2026 is held at Lysaght Institute this year and spaces are available in all sections. Thanks again for supporting us in Gwent!
